This four-storey village house is in the historic heart of Preggio, a beautiful, medieval hamlet which lies 640m (2100ft) above sea level. The views from the village reach across green wooded valleys to distant castles on the Umbria/Tuscany border, and over towards Pian di Marte above Lake Trasimeno, the scenic fields where Hannibal's Carthaginian troops famously ambushed and massacred over 25,000 Roman soldiers in 217 BC. This is the green heart of Italy, a land of rolling hills, vineyards, olive groves and woods of oak and chestnut, where little has changed since St Francis of Assisi preached here in the Middle Ages.

The house has been restored to the highest standards using local craftsmen and traditional materials, and many of its original features have been preserved. Handmade terracotta and travertine tiles cover the downstairs open-plan floors and upstairs is laid with warm antique oak. Traditional hand-painted doors lead into the two large bedrooms (one with luxury shower room) and a stylish main bathroom.
